In today’s video, I’ll be showing you:
- Not only the full and complete/traditional version and fingerings of the super popular G Major chord…
- But also some easier variations as well because I know the full version can be tough when you’re just starting out.
The key here is to find the version that best suits your skill level. Remember, some variations are easier than others. Don’t feel like you have to learn and play the full one just because it seems like the “right” one. Pick the one that is the easiest for you to play right now and start with that one at first.
The most important thing is just being able to incorporate a G into your playing as soon as possible so that you can start enjoying playing music. All of these chords are G Majors, so it really doesn’t mater which one you choose.
In fact, my personal favorite is the last version I show, the one where you mute the A string (5th string) and the High E string (1st string). It has nothing to do with the difficulty, but everything to do with the sound color it creates. I just love the sound of that “voicing“. To me, it sounds very open, and airy almost. Very guitar-like in my opinion… if that makes any sense.
So, with that said, maybe you’re one of those players that has been playing long enough that you don’t have any problems playing the traditional G chord and you’re wondering why this post and video matters to you? Well, let me just encourage you to try some different versions if you’ve been playing the same old G chord for years. Who knows, maybe you’ll stumble upon a voicing that YOU like better and will then be inspired to try incorporating it into your everyday playing, thus deepening your own personal playing style. And if not, that’s fine too. At least you’ll know for sure that you have the best version for you, and again, you’ll solidify your personal style.
Anyway, go and check out the video and let me know what you think of everything, or if you have a favorite voicing. Even if it’s one I haven’t mentioned!
Thanks for watching guys. See you in the next video.
